The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) language models like ChatGPT has raised significant concerns regarding academic integrity among students. This paper investigates how tools like ChatGPT can be misused to facilitate cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty. Through a comprehensive review of recent literature and case studies, the study identifies ethical challenges posed by AI in educational settings, including automated essay writing and the generation of unoriginal research content. It also examines the impact of AI on traditional assessment methods and critiques current academic policies that struggle to address these challenges. The paper concludes by proposing strategies for educators and institutions to uphold academic integrity in the age of AI, including enhanced awareness, revised assessment techniques, and the establishment of new guidelines for ethical AI use in education.
