Iran is a non-French-speaking country; however, French was historically practiced as a second language and has significantly influenced Iranian culture and language. French is taught at the university level in several Iranian institutions, offering programs from undergraduate to doctoral levels. This study aims to explore how the French language and culture have been portrayed in academic works by Iranian researchers over the past decade. Utilizing a discourse analysis approach, we focus on the semantic connotations of words employed by researchers when discussing the French language and culture. This analysis sheds light on how Iranian researchers in French studies represent the French language and culture. As part of my doctoral program in Linguistics, this paper serves as a literature review, laying the groundwork for an emic survey on the social representations of French in Iranian universities, which is the focus of my thesis.
