In this paper, the researchers aim to examine the effects of playing computer games on language learning. Game studies have soared in popularity in recent years and their impact on language learning has been confirmed by previous academic researches. Most studies however, attempted to measure the effects by having experimental group and control group take tests before and after playing a certain game and feedbacks were analyzed. This research on the other hand, attempts to investigate the influence of game genres and the platform they used on those learners who already have been playing for some time. Moreover, their preference in game aspects; namely, graphics, storyline, character etc., and whether this can have any possible impact in their learning process was of interest. A number of language learners who also played computer games were given questionnaires. The questionnaire determined how much time they allocated to playing games, their favorite game platform, their favorite genre and whether they can remember the vocabulary they were exposed to in games. The study showed that the genre of the games and also the platforms played important role in enhancing the learners’ linguistic abilities.
